About Us
Separated Parenting Services (SPS) is a charitable organisation that is operated by volunteers giving their time, energy and resources to support, encourage, and teach other members on how to best educate themselves, encouraging and promoting co-operation between organisations engaged in providing services for the benefit of parents and their families and family groups. Such organisations are the Family Court, Lawyers, IRD, Child Youth and Family, Ministry of Social Development, Mental Health, Child Development agencies, Mediators, Counsellors and other likeminded organisations that are able to assist parents and children.
Separated
Parenting Services Principles and Objectives are equal in priority and
status.
(a) To treat all men and women equally without discrimination of any kind;
(b) To promote conciliation as the best approach to Family Law;
(c) To promote, educate and make available support to members, and others,
that children benefit from active parenting from both mother and father, including
after separation;
(d) To provide assistance in accessing parenting, counselling, mediation and
legal services for men, women and children who have or are facing physical,
mental, emotional, spiritual, cultural or sexual abuse;
(e) To assist mothers, fathers and children in abusive relationships to become
aware of the alternatives available to them;
(f) To continually research information related to families, children and parents
after separation;
(g) To raise public awareness and understanding of issues associated with children
and parents after separation;
(h) To promote the importance of shared parenting to decision-makers, social
agencies and communities;
(i) To provide a forum for mothers and fathers to support, empower and inspire
each other;
(j) To encourage members to access and carry out self-help strategies for themselves,
their ex-partners and their children;
(k) To provide a “pay-it-forward” system where current and past
members are available to educate, offer support and advice to new members,
which in turn will offer the same to new members;
(l) To encourage full and active participation by members of the Society;
(m) To practically carry out everything incidental or conductive to attainment
of the charitable objectives and to exercise the powers of the Society;
(n) To form alliances and work with like-minded organisations who share principles
of quality, fairness, integrity and collectivism; and
(o) To provide an internet service with accurate and quality post separation
information to assist parents in decision making regarding themselves, their
children and their families’ future.
Separated Parenting Services operates by members freely giving back to
others in need, what was freely given to them at a time when they had the
need. When
you’re asked to help someone else, remember that someone was there to
help you.
A buddy system is used to team up new members with someone who can best help, particularly if the buddy has been involved in or dealt with similar issues. A buddy is a mentor for new members to call on and to keep an overview of the where there situation can proceed forward. The role of a buddy, subject to available resources, shall with integrity promote goodwill to new members.
Meetings
are held weekly (excluding last two weeks in December and first two weeks
in January of each year) every Thursday night at 7pm, at the Caro Street
Community Building (adjacent to Hamilton City Council) in Hamilton.
